Same exercise as before, but looking just at First Avenue shows.

A good guess would be that First Avenue has just a couple more touring shows to announce for September and 4-6 more for October. Early November may be spoken for at this point.

Counts of major touring shows by year/month since 2009, just to give an idea of what we likely have remaining Rocktober-wise for 2011.

Latter September is about 80% full. Still lots of open space in October (still about 44% left) and early November (55%).

(BTW our take on the 30-show jump from 2009-2010 is that it probably has more to do with normal fluctuation, or shows missing from our calendar, than any actual sort of increasing trend).

In the past two years we’ve seen announcements for Rocktober shows (defined as major touring shows between mid-September and mid-November) starting in February, picking up steam in mid-May, and building to a fever pitch at the end of July after which things drop off pretty quickly. So as of this posting we’ve seen most of what we’re going to get this year - of the approximately 250 Rocktober shows MN Live has tracked per year, so far we’ve had 154 (62%) announced for 2011. Or as the optimist will say, we’ve still got 100 or so more announcements to look forward to in the next two months!

Based on what we’ve got in mnlive’s database, here’s how the number of shows per week progressed over the course of 2009-2010. We’ve highlighted the two main peaks of the year in terms of the bigger touring shows: the month of April (especially heavy in the first two weeks), and “Rocktober”, which actually turned out to take place mid-September through mid-November in those two years.
